This explains why how to get more Google reviews is worth the effort. Everything here comes from Google's guide to improving local ranking.
The three things Google says decide local ranking
- Relevance: how well your listing matches what the person searched for. Complete, detailed business information helps.
- Distance: how far you are from the person searching.
- Prominence: how well known your business is. Google says this depends partly on information from across the web, including links and review data.
Where reviews fit
Google says prominence is based partly on how many reviews you have, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking.
What Google does not say
- It does not give a number of reviews you need.
- It does not say that replying to reviews raises your ranking, though it recommends replying.
- It does not promise a position. Distance and relevance count too.
What to do with this
Collect reviews steadily from real customers, keep your profile details complete, and reply to what people write. An NFC Google review card makes the ask quick, and how to collect reviews within Google's rules keeps them safe.
